Charleston Wedding Reception SitesCharleston Wedding Reception Sites

A little over 20 years ago, I was married in Charleston and had the great pleasure of enjoying a beautiful wedding day followed by a romantic wedding reception at The Mills House.  As Charleston wedding reception sites go, The Mills House proved to be one of the most elegant indoor locations in the historic area, and made for a memorable evening for everyone involved.  (Given that most of our guests came from out of town, they were duly impressed with our choice from Charleston wedding reception sites.)

At the time we were planning our blessed day, we had just moved to Charleston and really weren’t that familiar with all the wonderful Charleston wedding reception sites.  If I were to do it all over again in Charleston, I would have a much harder time figuring out where to have the reception.  Here are just a few of the locations that make for a memorable affair for all involved.

  • Historic Rice Mill.  The lovely building sites on the banks of the Ashley River, historically the river that carried bounty from the rice plantations just up river.  The architecture that frames a beautiful view of the river certainly serves as a good beginning for planning an amazing reception.
  • Lowndes Grove.  Just a few miles upriver from the Historic Rice Mill is one of my Charleston wedding reception sites.  Lowndes Grove is the last remaining plantation house on the Charleston Peninsula, complete with sweeping views of the Ashley River and an opulent main house.
  • Gibbes Museum.  How can you lose when you choose a Charleston wedding reception site that includes some of the most beautiful art you will find in the area?  The Gibbes offers a great courtyard, and the  upstairs is perfect for a corporate dinner or reception for up to 250.
  • Wild Dunes.  This Coastal Island Resort offers a diverse and well-balanced venue for weddings and corporate events. Many aspects of this property make this one of the most attractive venues for corporate and social events. From the pool deck to the Grand Pavilion to the Sweetgrass ballroom to the croquet lawn, the possibilities for events are endless.

This short list of Charleston wedding reception sites certainly proves one thing . . . .there are lots of choices!  (I still remember The Mills House as being just wonderful as well.) May your choice leave you with as many pleasant memories.
