Charleston Wedding Reception LocationsCharleston Wedding Reception Locations

When I was married in Charleston 20 years ago, the choice of Charleston wedding reception locations seemed a bit limited.  That was well before the Destination Wedding Boom of the past few years, a boom that has catapulted Charleston, SC, to the position as one of the most popular places for wedding couples to experience their special day.  Charleston wedding reception locations have certainly increased in number, variety of venues and popularity.

In looking at Charleston wedding reception locations, there are some very obvious choices and some that are a little different . . . and a whole mixture of everything else in between.   Let’s take a look at some of the most popular ones in the city, leaving out the various hotels around town.

  • Kiawah Island, The Sanctuary Hotel.  Since it’s opening in August 2004, this five-star hotel located just off the beach of this exclusive island resort immediately assumed the position of exclusivity and opulence.  There are a number of venues at the hotel, both indoors and out, with some interesting backdrops all around the grounds.  Of course, exclusivity does demand a higher price tag.  As a Charleston wedding reception location, The Sanctuary would be hard to top.
  • The South Carolina Aquarium.  Moving toward the quirkier side of things, the Aquarium offers some interesting venues from its location along the Cooper River with striking views of the Arthur Ravenel Bridge.  As Charleston wedding reception locations go, this one offers your guests some interesting backdrops both inside and out.
  • The Provost House.  Situated at the intersection of Broad Street and Easy Bay in the heart of the historic peninsula area, the Provost House has served a number of functions in the nearly 400 year history of the city.  Choosing this venue provides you with some interesting historical backdrops to the bridal celebration.
  • Historic Homes.  From palatial antebellum plantations located on manicured estates to historic homes in the historic area, historic homes serve as interesting Charleston wedding reception locations.  There are so many choices to fit your particular vision for the wedding reception, which is probably part of what makes Charleston such a popular destination for weddings.  One of my favorites it the William Aiken House located just off King Street, the long-standing commercial center of the city.  Of course, the plantations provide numerous choices and can offer a number of different venues.

The best news is that the choices Charleston provides for wedding receptions have been home to many wonderful bridal celebrations.  No matter which one you choose, your guests are sure to be transported to a magical event just as you have always dreamed it would be!
