Charleston Convention and Hospitality Event
The first time I visited Charleston was to attend a conference. In fact, I didn’t really know anyone else who had been to Charleston at
that point in my life. Attending a Charleston convention and hospitality event as my first introduction to the city turned
out to be a great overview of the area, and I followed up with a much longer visit on vacation. After that vacation visit, I was hooked and
ended up moving to Charleston.
For the Charleston convention and hospitality event that I attended, we took in a little taste of everything Charleston has to offer. It
began with a carriage tour of the historic area, and the tour guide on the carriage gave us a great overview of the city’s history through his
description of the architecture. (Being a social history buff, I loved all the details about how people lived in Charleston through the
different eras.)
After the carriage ride, we were invited to a luncheon at the William Aiken House just off King Street, which is the historical heart of the
commercial district. Charleston convention and hospitality events usually involve one the numerous historic homes in the city, and they are
all beautiful in various and sundry ways. When we enter the doorway that leads to the garden area, I felt transported to a bygone era.
That evening, our group boarded a boat for a Charleston Harbor Dinner Cruise just as the sun set over the marsh. Although the food
wasn’t all that wonderful, the scenery took your breath away. As a Charleston hospitality and convention event, it’s really hard to beat
it.
As with most conventions, the evening did not end early on our first night! Everyone wanted to explore the downtown bar scene, and we
had no trouble finding plenty of great places to enjoy a few after dinner drinks and tap our toes to the beat. The nightlife ranges from
intimate wine bars to wide-open college bars. Although probably not on the list of Charleston convention and hospitality events, it was
great fun nonetheless.
That first day in Charleston began one of the most enjoyable conferences I’ve attended, and ended up being one of the reasons I knew I had to
return. I guess you could say the Charleston convention and hospitality event served its purpose to show me all the great things about a
great city.
